Full conversation export

How to download Claude chat as PDF

Save the full back-and-forth as a single PDF, Word file, or Google Doc — all formatting preserved.

  1. 1

    Open any Claude conversation

Go to claude.ai and open the chat you want to save as PDF. The extension works on private and shared conversations — you don't need a public share link.

  2. 2

Click the export button in the top-right

Look for the PDF, Word, or Google Docs buttons at the top-right corner of the conversation window. Click your preferred format.

  3. 3

    The file downloads automatically

PDF: downloads directly. Word (.docx): saved to your Downloads folder. Google Docs: opens as a new document in your Google Drive.

Export only Claude's responses

By default, both your questions and Claude's answers are included. To export only Claude's responses, click the Settings gear icon in the top right, go to Conversion Settings, and enable "Export only Claude responses." The setting is saved automatically.

Single response export

How to save a single Claude response as PDF

Export just one message instead of the whole conversation — useful for saving a specific answer, code block, or explanation.

  1. 1

Find the response you want to export

Scroll to the specific Claude response in your conversation that you want to save.

  2. 2

Click the export button below that response

Each Claude response has PDF, Word, and Google Docs buttons at its bottom-right corner. Click the format you need.

  3. 3

    The file downloads immediately

Only that single response is exported — headings, bullet points, code blocks, tables, and math equations are all preserved.

What's preserved in the export

  • Headings and paragraph structure
  • Bullet points and numbered lists
  • Code blocks and syntax formatting
  • Math equations (rendered in Word)
  • Tables and indentation
  • Bold, italic, and inline formatting
Artifact export

How to download Claude artifact as PDF

Claude artifacts — the side panel where long-form outputs appear — can be exported directly to PDF, Word, or Google Docs without exporting the rest of the conversation.

  1. 1

    Open and maximize the artifact

In your Claude conversation, click the artifact to open it in the side panel. Maximize it to full view — artifact export only works when the artifact is fully open.

  2. 2

Click the export button in the artifact panel

With the artifact open, look for the PDF, Word, or Google Docs button in the top-right corner of the artifact panel (not the main conversation).

  3. 3

The artifact content exports on its own

Only the artifact content is exported — not the surrounding conversation. This is ideal for exporting structured documents, reports, code files, or essays Claude created.

How the buttons switch between modes

  • Artifact open (full view): the top-right buttons export the artifact content only.
  • Artifact closed: the same buttons export the entire conversation instead.

Troubleshooting

⚠️ Export buttons aren't showing in Claude

Make sure you're on claude.ai and logged in. After installing, refresh the tab — buttons appear automatically. If still missing, check the extension is enabled at chrome://extensions, or try reinstalling.

⚠️ File isn't downloading

Check that Chrome is allowed to download files (Chrome Settings → Privacy and Security → Site Settings → Automatic downloads). Also look for any download-blocked warning in the address bar.

⚠️ Artifact export button isn't visible

The artifact must be open and maximized in full view — the export button only appears when the artifact panel is fully open, not when it's collapsed.

⚠️ Google Docs export asks me to sign in

The Google Docs export opens a new document in your Google Drive, so you need to be signed in to Google in the same browser. Sign in first, then retry.

⚠️ Extension stopped working after a Chrome update

Go to chrome://extensions, find 'Claude to PDF', and re-enable it. If that doesn't help, remove and reinstall from the Chrome Web Store.
